Hi,
I've gone through your query and I understand quite well your concern
OFM is a medication combination of
metronidazole and ofloxacin, which is used in giardiasis,
trichomonas vaginitis,
anaerobic infections, ulcerative gingivitis,
trichomoniasis.
Diarrhea is caused due to: food intorlerance and sensitivity,
food allergy, normal intestine variations.
Based on what you referred to me (because you told me only about the frequency of the feces and not it's characteristics,in order to identify a possible cause)he is experiencing a mild diarrhea and in your child's case I better suggest you not to use the antibiotic but to change the diet of your child.
1. If this diarrhea is caused from food sensitivity. You can use foods that will help cause the bulking and hardening of the stool such as bananas, rice, white potatoes, yogurt, pasta, cooked carrots , etc. You should avoid pears, peaches and some dairy products such as cow's milk, except yogurt because it has "good" bacteria for your child's intestine.
2. Because of the risk of dehydration, you should use Oral rehydration sachets (ORS) There is quantity of water prescribed on the sachet that is to be mixed for 1 sachet of ORS powder (usually ready to serve preparations that contain electrolytes).Dosage for 24-hours: 90 to 125 mL every hour
3. Zink suspension: 0.5 to 1 mg elemental zinc/kg/day divided 1 to 3 times/day
4.
Enterogermina (contains good germs for a better intestinal function):5ml twice daily for 2 to 5 days by mouth.
If your child persists severe (10 or more loose or
watery stools per day)or bloody diarrhea, please consult immediately your peditrician.
Wish you child good health
