What Causes Frequent UTI And Back Pain?

HI, my 9 year old daughter has had several UTI s in the past plus post-strep glomerulonephritis last year. She had a scan on her kidneys about 3 years ago and all was normal then. She is often complaining of pain when urinating, has very concentrated foul smelling urine (yes, we are constantly trying to get her to drink more water as I know this could be the cause of that) she often wets the bed at night - but only a very small amount - and today she is complaining of a really sore back/side on her right side. Does it sound like there is something unresolved here?

Thanks for query.
You 9 years old daughters has UTI with pain in her Rt loin .

This could be due to presence of urinary stone associated with UTI and has to be ruled out by doing ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and pelvis.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic
tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis .

In the mean while give her spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. She has repeated urinary tract infection. She should go for urine routine and microscopic examination as well as culture and sensitivity test. Then she needs to take antibiotics accordingly. Levofloxacin or norfloxacin can be helpful. It is prescription based medicine so consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly.For back pain she can take ibuprofen for symptomatic releif till her urinary tract infection resolved.
