My girl has bowel issues Dear Ask The Doctor: I m about to take my five year old girl to the emergency room, I don t have insurance at this time otherwise I would of taken her to a doctor! She had had diarrhea and mucus with blood in her stool for about a month now, she feels like she has to go 20 plus times a day, usually there is nothing or some on the toilet paper when I wipe her. The blood hasn t been present for over a week, but the constant trips to the bathroom and the mucus is there. Half the time she doesn t go but attempts to.
She is having mucus and blood in stool. This should not be neglected....
Get her stool routine microscopic examination.... If pus cells seen then it could be bacterial dysentery like infection and antibiotic like ciprofloxacin given for it.....
If stool show egg or trophozoites of ameba or giardia then metronidazole needed....
If still cause not clear then stool culture done... According to sensitivity drug given...
If still problem USG done to rule out organic cause...
Maintain her hydration.... Fruits more.....
It is better if you consult doctor as physical examination for dehydration and general check up needed according to which investigation can be guided.
Take care.
