What Causes Foul Smelling Urine And Tightness In Chest?

My name is Lucie. I am 54 years old, 5 feet 4 inches, 120 pounds. I have been suffering from IBS for many years now but my concern today is this. I have been feeling nauseated for about a week now, I have foul smelling urine and tightness in my chest. Could this be related to a kidney infection ? One year ago, I had a kidney infection that required antibiotics but I also had flank pain at that time which is not the case now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Foul smelling urine is indicative of underlying infection through invading pathogen.
• Consume plenty of liquids
• Cranberry sachets once daily in a glass of water and citrus fruits help
• Keep genitals clean and dry
• Keep blood sugar under control
• May require urine microscopy and systemic need of antibiotics has to be evaluated by clinician.

Tightness in the chest may be due to nausea feeling with reflux of stomach acid, anxiety related or it may be a separate entity. Needs BP measurement and physical evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
