What Causes Foul Smelling Discharge From An Ear?

HI, COULD A FISHY SMELLING EAR WAX LIKE SECRETION FROM ONE EAR BE DUE TO A FALL 10 MONTHS AGO? husband tripped over some tree roots sustaining terrible bruising on ear, just inside ear as well and eye - as he is on warfarin, he obviously bruises easily. He also has lost some of his hearing in that ear over the last month. There are also, on a daily basis, dry skin flakes ande sore looking skin just inside the ear. Thank you.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain foul smelling discharge from ear with a previous history of traumatic injury to the ear and loss of hearing that can be due to perforation of the ear drum can e due to infection in ear and the discharge seems to be pus..

I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and he can also advise Otoscopy..

In case of infection he can advise you oral antibiotics like Augmentin or Cephelexin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil, decongestants nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline, antibiotic ear drops like Gentamycin ..
The pus discharge can be drained out manually by syringing to resolve the infection faster..
