What Causes Foaming In The Mouth?

My 5 yr old boy was on his back sleeping when we noticed a light foam all in his mouth and coming out. He was congested. I turned him on his side the wheezing stooped and so did the foam. When he foams in his sleep does that mean something is wrong with his respiratory system? Or is it something minor? What is causing the foam? Asked On : Tue, 22 Jan 2013 Answers: 1 Views: 464

Thanks for your question on HCM.
Foaming and lung congestion in child can be seen in
1. Cardiac disease (congenital heart disease)
2. Pulmonary disease like asthma and pneumonia.
3. Upper airway obstruction like enlarged tonsils, adenoids etc.
So get done 2d echo to rule out congenital heart disease.
Get done chest x ray and clinical examination of respiratory system to rule out asthma and pneumonia.
Get done laryngoscopy to rule out upper respiratory tract obstruction.
If all are normal than no need to worry much.
But above mentioned causes must be rule out first.
