Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would like to explain that facing your brother's clinical situation, the most probable responsible cause of swollen legs is heart failure. A markedly decreased cardiac performance frequently seen in valvular and ischemic cardiac patients leads to fluid retention expressed with systemic congestion, and swollen legs as well.

A cardiac ultrasound review of left ventricular systolic function, coupled with pulmonary artery systolic pressure quantification, pulmonary vascular resistance, etc. would be helpful to elucidate this issue.

Other contributing factors would be local inflammation from venous lower limbs graft extractions, anemia, possible hypo-proteinemia, etc.

You need to discuss with his attending doctor about the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you! Greetings! Dr. Iliri

Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Azam Jan's  Response
Usually it is a combination of having had the surgery and strength of the heart that are responsible of fluid in the feet.Treatment includes less salt, less fluid intake daily and starting pills to remove fluid from body sometime 2 of them re needed. Also make sure the kidneys are working normally.
