What Causes Fluid In The Pouch Of Douglas?

My daughter has fluid in the pouch of Douglas. She is 24, special needs, 4 10 not sexually active. She was recently sick and had a high white blood cell count. We spent three days in hospital. Ran tests, MRI, Sono, CT scan, etc. After going home she saw our female doctor. Dr has completed a sonogram and said that the ovaries are fine, but two weeks later there is still fluid in the pouch. She is asking us to see our regular doctor as in her opinion was not a GYN issue. What can cause this fluid to still be there after all this time? Just want to know what to expect to hear.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
I understand your concern.
Free fluid in pouch of douglas. with high WBC count with ovaries normal, indicates some infection/ inflammation . Certain conditions develop in maidens too.
She should have a repeat check of USG of pelvis along with detailed physical examination by a gynecologist .. to trace the root cause & get specific treatment.
Thanks.
