What Causes Fluctuating BP Readings?

I have had high Blood pressure that goes up and down. Weekness shortness of breath, I have been cleared by my cardiologist of any heart problems. I have a metallic taste in my mouth. Dizziness light headedness. And moving pain all over, now anxiety attacks as well.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that anxiety could cause these changes in blood pressure.

A metabolic disorder (like thyroid dysfunction or adrenal dysfunction) could cause this sympyomatology too.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG, a chest x ray study and some blood lab tests:

-complete blood count
-thyroid hormone levels
-cortisol and aldosteron plasma levels
-blood electrolytes
-kidney and liver function tests
-fasting glucose.

If all the above tests result normal, the main cause of your problems would be a generalized anxiety disorder.

In such case you should consult with a specialist of this field, to help you manage your anxiety. Psychotherapy, anxiolytics and an antidepressant may be necessary.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
