Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a a very bad flu in September. About 1 month later we discovered that my spleen is enlarged . I have had many blood tests and a bone marrow All negative. Do you think it s possible that the flu I had was H1n1? Spleen is still the same size blood counts have returned to normal.
Hello The enlargement of SPLEEN is still there even after 10 months of illness although all tests are normal . But still there is doubt in your brain that in September you were infected with H 1 N 1 or not . After going through all papers I want to explain you these things . Novel H1 N 1 influenza typically manifests as uncomplicated illness of limited duration. Hospitalization or antiviral therapy is NOT likely to be required for most of patients . INFECTIOUS PERIOD is 1 DAY before until 24 hour after fever ends. As I have notice in past so many times in the epidemic or endemic season of H1 N 1 influenza , usually most of patients were sufferers of OTHER DISEASES . So in your case whether enlargement of spleen is due to H1 N1 or not , it is not clear . In my personal opinion the cause of enlargement OF SPLEEN is not H1 N 1 . Hope this will help you.
