What Causes Floaters In Eyes With Light In Peripheral Vision?

I had a cataract lense put in both eyes three years ago, I am now 54. Yesterday I woke up and have floaters in my eye that won't leave even with moisture eye drops and I see like a flash of light to my side every once in a while. could there be a tear in the lense?
