What Causes Flashing Lights In Peripheral Vision Of Left Eye?

Twice this week I have experienced zig zagged flashing lights in my peripheral vision of my left eye and today it was as if I had lost most of my peripheral vision for about 5-8 minutes. I read online that this is a symptom of retinal detachment. If this is the case would I still be experiencing the flashing lights and loss of peripheral vision? Or does it come and go?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hi..Welcome to HCM..
If the peripheral loss of vision is persistent, then that may indicate a retinal detachment..
If you are just seeing flashes of light it could be because of a retinal break which may lead to a retinal detachment if not taken care of..
Some times you might be experiencing transient black outs for few moments which is due to stress and nothing to worry about it..
If you are short sighted you are more prone to retinal breaks or detachments..
Do consult an ophthalmologist for clarification and treatment if necessary..
Hope I have helped with my answer..
Regards..
