What Causes Fever With Sore Throat, Headache, Dizziness And Stomach Aches?

My 10 y ear old daughter has been sick 3x over the past 2 months w/ the same symptoms - sore throat, headache, temp of 100, dizziness, stomach ache. Last time the dr said it was a virus, but put her on amoxcyllin since 2 family members had strep. She tested - for strep. She has missed 8 days of school since the start of the year! What could be going on w/her and waht tests should I ask for?

Hi... by what you say I feel that your kid is going through a cycle of recurrent viral illnesses.

You need not subject her to unnecessary investigations if she is well in between the episodes.

I will explain you how a viral illness behaves so that you can be more confident.

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
