What Causes Fever In A 2 Year Old Suffering With Epilepsy?
Dear Drs, My son is 2 years and 11 months old now. His weight is 16 Kg. He was recently diagnosed to be epileptic. Starting from Yesterday he s had high fever that fluctuates between 38 and 40 dc. He repeatedly lost his normal state of mind and says somethings as if he saw a dream. He has bloody watery stool. I took his stool to the laboratory and diagnosed amoeba cyst and nothing else. My question is that can amoeba alone cause fever in children? Or is there any complication other than amoebasis?

Hi.....amoeba cyst will not cause fever. Only amoeba trophozoites needs to be treated. I feel your kid is having an bacillary dysentery. It requires antibiotics and I would suggest Cefixime. This is a prescription drug and visit your pediatrician regarding this.
Losing normal state of mind during high fever could be due to these possibilities -
1. Febrile delirium.
2. Febrile encephalopathy
3. Meningitis.
I suggest you take him to nearest emergency room immediately.
