What Causes Feeling Of Pounding And Heaviness In Heart?
My heart feels like something is twisting it...it also beats so hard I swear it feels as if it s pounding against my chest wall. What could this be? I do have anxiety and panic attacks but just usually hyperventilate and get scared. Once I felt a pounding and heaviness and I was so scared since it was my first time I felt something heart related. I went to the ER, they took tests and everything was normal. Gave me an anti-anxiety med. I don t want to look foolish by over-reacting.
I can understand your concern. It seems like another anxiety episode that your are experiencing. Have you started anti-anxiety medicine?
I would advise you to try to calm down and relax. Divert yourself to some activity that you like doing or that relaxes you. Remind yourself that what you are feeling is unreasonable excessive fear where no fear-arousing situation is present. Breathe in deep, count till 5 and breathe out slowly and repeat.
If these episodes are frequent and you feel that you are not able to control them, you should visit a mental health professional or psychiatrist and start counselling sessions along with anti-anxiety medications.
