What Causes Fainting After 2 Hours Of Blood Donation?

My mom donated blood today. She has never had a reaction after donating in the past. Today, after donating, she was fine, until about 2 hours later, she fainted. Is this something that could have been caused from the blood donation? She was at the local grocery store standing in an unusually long line, due to the holiday season. Thank you for any answers you can provide.

Thanks for writing to HCM

Actually your mother must have fainted due to hypovolemic shock after donating blood.
Sometimes due to less blood volume, though HB is normal whenever the patient donates blood and does not take adequate measure to compensate the volume loss eg taking juices and fluids, the patient may faint as a result of hypovolemic shock.
You just need to give her lot of fruit juice along with other healthy foods and liquids.

Always do a proper examination of patients physical health before donating blood

Hope she recovers soon

Thanks
