What Causes Extreme Pain During Sex After Total Hysterectomy, Rectocele And Cystocele?

I had a total hysterectomy, rectocele and cystocele at the end of September. After waiting the prescribe amount of time, we resumed intimate relations only to find at maximum penetration there was extreme pain, so much so that we had to stop. Even the little applicator for the Vagifem causes pain at the end of insertion. What could the problem be?

Hello,
The possible causes for the pain during intercourse and during vaginal application are the shortened vaginal canal after the surgery, absence of lubrication ensuing from the cervix, tightness of the vaginal walls following repair of the rectocele and the cystocele and some amount of induration at the vaginal vault. You should see your specialist for an examination and further advice. If induration of the wound is seen as the cause, enzymes may be sued to facilitate proper tissue healing. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
