What Causes Extreme Fatigue Along With Vertigo And Vision Distortion?

Hi I am 43, female, a carer and overweight despite having little desire to eat. I have been experiencing extreme fatigue, vertigo and disturbed vision (trouble focusing, feels like I m wearing someone else s glasses)for vwell over acyear now. I ve had my eyes tested and everything is normal except for some double vision in left field and twitchy left eye. Have been to ENT consultant who said everything looked normal. I passed hearing tests OK despite a dullness in left ear. I had pancreatitis can couple of years ago and have been taking lansoprazole 30mg daily for GERD. The fatigue is terrible. I used to be very active and survive on 6 hrs sleep per night. Now I m sleeping any chance I get and don t feel any benefit. Doctor insisted I was depressed and prescribed sertraline which I took for six months during which I thought I was going mad. I m glad to be off them! Latest development is sore throat, pain and spasms in my neck, back and feet, headache, sciatica and painful debilitating heavy menstruation. I get short sudden attacks of dizziness as if I ve been momentarily knocked out and canb fall asleep suddenly for a second or two whilst reading, watching TV or driving. Myesthenia gravis has been suggested tho it is thought to be unlikely. Just want to feel well and live a normal active life!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query extreme fatigue along with vertigo and vision distortion can occur due to many reasons like middle ear infection , some kind of growth in middle ear or fluid in middle ear ( Meniere's disease ) . You should not ignore this , because sometimes the condition get complicated. i would suggest you to start with antibiotics, steroids and labrynthine sedatives for 5 to 7 weeks. you should go for vestibular rehabilitation exercises. You should consult with your ENT specialist and get evaluated. Doctor may order audiometry test and tuning fork test and treat it accordingly. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug along with antibiotics and supplement like ginkgo biloba or may refer you to ophthalmologist .Avoid touching and pricking it with any sharp object.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
