I sleep with my mouth open causing extreme dryness. While opening the house up in the morning, I will accumulate some mucus when spit up is tinged with blood. In 2011 I was diagnosed with LPR reflux and am wondering if this may be a manifestation. I ve had recent blood work specifically for glucose and thyroid monitoring which appear to be normal. This happens only once a day upon awakening. I m not sure if I should revisit an ENT or Gastroenterologist, Pulmonologist, Dentist. Whatever direction you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
The blood in the mouth is due to LPR reflux it is also known as ' SILENT reflux ' as it has no symptoms like heart burn. The acidic content irritate mucosa and sometimes make it bleed . But this kind of reflux can cause excessive release of saliva and opposite thing is happening with you .
In silent reflux body produce excess saliva to neutralize the acidic effect . It seems to me that there is some kind of nerve dysfunction which is responsible for dryness of mouth .
I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon and neurologist for dryness of mouth .
Also consult gastroenterologist for proper diagnosis of reflux disease. Doctor may prescribe medications like H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitor .
Avoid heavy and spicy meal specially during night.
