What Causes Excessive Sweating?

I sweat profusely all the time. I wake up drenched in sweat. it started with menopause, hot flash and night sweat, and now it is so severe I avoid social situation. These sweats episodes start on my head and face, then my neck and under my breasts. I eat well, lots of fruits & veggies. Eliminated white flour, and starchy carbs. I eat fish, turkey, and chicken only. No red meats or pork. I drink water. No high sugary juices, sodas, or alcohol. I exercise 4 days per week. What else can I do? I do suffer from RA, and take low dose high blood pressure meds

Hello,

Menopause is the phase where there are a lot of hormonal changes going on in the body and these hormones give hot flashes and hence, sweating. There are some triggers that can induce these flashes like being in a hot room, tight clothing, spicy food, stress/anxiety, caffeine consumption etc. You have already restricted your diet so much that I feel bad to restrict you on spices and coffee, too but if you do, it will help you.

Wear clothes in layers and not too tight. Switch to cotton as they absorb sweat better than anything else. You can use deodrants or antiperspirant so you do not have to avoid social situations. Drinking iced water will help you. Keep sipping it throughout day and keep it on nightstand at night for help with night sweats.

If you will keep a diary about what time, food or activity brings you hot flashes and excessive sweating, you will be able to find a pattern and avoid triggers easily.

However, if nothing helps, you may have to take some medicines. Your gynecologist may prescribe you hormone replacement therapy based on the hormonal levels in your blood.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
