Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 33 year old healthy male. I have no kids. Recently I can not stay awake for a full day even with 8 to 10 hours of sleep at night. 3 weeks in a row I have napped for at least an hour each day. I have never been one to nap in the past. This is very new and affecting my work.
I can understand your concern. Excess sleepiness can occur due to a number of common causes like medical causes as Nutritional deficiencies, Endocrinal disorders, febrile illness etc, psychiatric causes like depression etc.
Low Vitamin B12 levels, anaemia of iron deficiency etc are common causes for fatigue. Hypothyroidism can also cause similar symptoms. Please visit a doctor and get B12 levels, Haemoglobin levels and Thyroid function tests done to rule out the possible causes. If everything comes in normal range then visit a psychiatrist to rule out psychiatric causes.
Medicines like Modafinil can help to improve the day to day fatigue and you will feel better. The medicine helps to increase alertness and reduces fatigue. Along with this I'd advise you to take Vitamin B12 supplements which will potentiate the actions of Modafinil. Please visit a doctor for help.
Thanks, Take care
