What Causes Excessive Facial Hair While On Levothyroxine?

I have a lot of very Fine facial hair around sideburns on my face after menopause. It seems to be about 1/4 inch long and I am extremely sensitive about it. Is this condition at all common around women in my age group? I am 59 years old and have a low thyroid condition I take levothyroxine for daily, and have type 2 diabetes. What kind of treatment if any could help me get rid of it?

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. Around menopause, there is an increase in the growth of unwanted hair, especially facial hair, due to change in the hormone levels. This is not due to the hypothyroid state or the diabetes. It is due to the elevation of testosterone levels in contrast to the decline of female hormones. Please do not worry. You can see a cosmetologist for proper treatment. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
