What Causes Excess Salivation And Sinus Congestion?

I am a female, 44; post-menopause. Hight 1mt.60cm. weight 177 pounds. I just got an upper left wisdom tooth exctracted, and the doctor said that it was complicated because the root didn't come out together with the tooth; there was a whole after the extraction to my sinus, so he had to put a plug in that whole and told me not to sneeeze with my mouth closed or suck on a straw and that I should take meds for sinus congestion to avoid having to blow my nose (another restriction). This is a concern to me, besides that I produce excessive saliva too often. The surgery was last night (about 8pm.) and he had to use stitches. Could you explain me a little more about the cause of the production of saliva? is this normal? isn't this going to keep my mouth wet (i need the clot to form and stay dry). Also, I would like to know what are the risks of the hole to my sinus. Before the surgery I used to get frequent sinus and ear infections, common colds...I thought that the exctraction will resolve this issues, not worsen them

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain excessive salivation known as Hypersalivation can occur due to a number of causes which can be due to excessive production and it can also be due to deficient clearance leading to pooling of saliva in mouth and at times drooling..

It can be due to Oral infections, canker sores, sinus infections, common cold, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, liver diseases, pancreatitis, rabies etc..

Taking certain medications like Pilocarpine, ketamine, clozapine, Rabprazole etc..

In case if you have sinusitis problem it can also lead to excessive salivation..
Excess saliva production after extraction is a normal finding and can be due to irritation and inflamed tissues after extraction and if it transient and due to extraction it will get relieve as the healing will progress..

As you explained you had a sinus perforation during extraction and it is already managed by the dentist you need not to worry and as the healing of the socket will proceed the minor perforation will gradually close..

You need not to worry as a properly managed case of sinus perforation will heal well and will not lead to any sinus infections..

You should follow the instructions given to you by your dentist and take the advised medications..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
