What Causes Excess Salivation And Nausea After Taking Antacid?
I'm a 53 year old female in good health but have lately had stomach issues - usually gas once I've taken an antacid, but this is much worse. I start salivating extensively, feel slightly nauseous and have even vomited while on the street when i became overcome with the extreme discomfort. Things improved after that, but I'm having the same symptoms again, and staying home taking tums. Is this like acid reflux? My younger sister has it.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the symptoms looks like Acid reflux as due to regurgitation of acid from stomach to throat and mouth there is excess salivation due to irritation of mucosa and stimulation of Salivary Glands.. You should consult a Gastroenterologist for confirmation of cause and he can also advise you to get upper G.I Endoscopy done and once it is confirmed he can advise you to take Proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole, antacid like Calcium carbonate, take small meals every 2 hours, avoid spicy and acidic foods, shed weight if obese, drink plenty of water, take short walk after meals and sleep with head raised as compared to feet and recline in left lateral position..
As per your query you have excess salivation and nausea after taking Antacid . Well there can be many reasons for the symptoms you mention in query , but in your case it seems to me that the reasons for your symptoms is probably acid reflux disease . Excessive saliva production is normal function of body to neutralize the acidity and usually saliva production increase in case of acid reflux . I would suggest you to avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night , eat small and frequent meals , take a light walk after every meal and eat at least one hour before going to bed . Consult gastroenterologist and discuss your condition with him/her . Doctor may order endoscopy , x-ray of upper digestive track , stool test and blood test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ,proton pump inhibitor and H2 blockers .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
