What Causes Excess Redness And Bruising On Legs?

I m a type 1 diabetic and have had bruising on my legs for a few years. I ve asked both my endocrinologist and PCP about it and they don t seem concerned. Recently, on my right leg the bruise has turned more red and is more painful. Should I see a dermatologist?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of excess redness and bruising on legs which seems to be due to bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue due to compromised immunity of your body and increased susceptibility of getting infected. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with oral antibiotic course of Amoxycillin 500 mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg for around 1 week. You should take oral painkiller as well. Visit dermatologist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. Avoid touching or pricking them with sharp object. Drink plenty of fluids. Apply topical antibacterial ointment neosporin or gentamicin on these rashes twice daily.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
