What Causes Excess Mucus In Throat After Consuming Dairy Products?

I have developed excess mucus production in my throat after ingesting milk, I switched to lactose free and it disappeared. Now it seems to occur after eating cheese, yogurt, sour cream and bread. Does this sound like a lactose intolerance and or is there something I can take to avoid the symptoms, which last about 1 hour. Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have excess mucus in throat after consuming dairy products . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons but it seems to me that these symptoms probably occur due to sinusitis and post nasal drip . But the symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction due to dairy products . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles severeal times a day , take steam twice a day and avoid milk products for some daya specially at night . Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order test like CT scan , blood test , allergy test and viral culture test to rule out condition like acid reflux and strep throat . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenetrologist for acid reflux. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) at least for 10 days along with decongestant .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
