What Causes Episodes Of Breathlessness?

My 80 year old mother has had this strange flu bug that is on the go, she had the flu and pneumococcal injections. She has not returned to her normal very fit and active self and takes these strange breathless turns when doing very little e.g. walking from living room to bathroom. What do you think could be causing this?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, your mother is having post infectious bronchitis. This is common after viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI).
Bronchitis causes airway inflammation. And this causes bronchospasm and breathlessness.
So better to consult pulmonologist for her and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
She may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
Don't worry, she will be.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
