What Causes Enlarged Thyroid Gland?

The thyroid gland is enlarged. The right lobe measures 5.11 x 2.1 x 2.0 cm. The left lobe measures 5.23 x 2.2 x 2.0 cm. The parenchyma of both lobes has lobulated borders and shows coarse echo texture. There are no focal mass lesions nor calcifications. Parenchyma has increase in vascularity. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi..
Welcome to HCM. Enlarged thyroid could be due to hyperactivity of thyroid (hyperthyroidism), or toxic nodule within the gland or due to malignancy. You have not given details about your symptoms like feeling lethargy/anxious, palpitation, constipation/diarrhea, protruded eyes etc. I suggest you to go for Fine needle aspiration of lymph nodes and thyroid function test to differentiate between malignancy and other causes..
Thank you
