What Causes Endometrial Thickening?

Hi, Im 38 yrs old, have been diagnosed with PCOS, am currently TTC. I have been on clomid and femara. Im moving on to injectibles as soon as an ovarian simple cyst resolves. I had a day 3 cycle follicle study (transvaginal US) and my RE said I had 11 mm endometrial thickening that showed up bright. He wants to perform D&C in a week. I ve had irregular periods all my life and I have never had children. Is this something I should worry about? And what does it mean when something shows up bright? I m really stressed out thinking the worst!

Hi,
In PCOD, there is unopposed estrogen action on the endometrium of the uterus and this results in thickening of the endometrium. The fact that you had irregular periods all through indicate the possible absence of natural ovulation. As such, you need to have proper workup and go for appropriate management soon enough considering your advancing age. The bright spots could mean some calcification, old healed scars and so on. Once you get the biopsy report from the curettage, further management can be planned. Hope this helps.
