What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes After Recovering From Dengue?

Hi My son has just recovered from dengue but his sgpt has increased to 385. From 116, to 165 then to 385. He spent 6 days in the hospital. Will his sgpt just go back to normal just like his platelet? His platelet is now 190. How can he improved his sgpt after having dengue fever. What home remedies can you suggest? He isn t allowed to take any medicine. Please help. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Dengue is a viral infection, in which primarily the platelet count decreases. However, due to antigen-antibody reaction and viral particle load, it can affect liver and cause mild hepatocellular dysfunction. In such instance, the liver enzymes would increase up to 4 times than the normal range.
However, once the fever subsides and platelet count shows increasing trend, the recovery from illness sets in. In about 2 to 4 weeks, the liver tissue also returns to normal and the enzymes also would return back to normal.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
