What Causes Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels?

hello. My husband has AST of 102, ALT of 68 and GGT of 69. He is 36 years old, normal height/weight. We do have a glass of wine (or two) during dinner several nights a week. Non smoking, regular exercise. Should I be concerned? My levels were 18, 14, and 23 (respectfully).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.

Please compare your result with normal result

Normal range Your result
1. AST : 17-59 U/L 102 (High)
2. ALT : 21-72 U/L 68 (Normal)
3. GGT: 15-73 U/L 69 (Normal)

I think It is normal if you have no problem.
You can do the full liver profile like billirubin and albumin to exclude jaundice and hepatitis,
As AST is a marker of hepato toxicity.

As you are drinking alcohol, you should test your GGT regularly as it is a marker of alcohol toxicity.

But GGT come to normal after 4-6 week of abstinence from alcohol.

No worry it is normal.
yOu can repaet test after 1-2 week for confirmation.
Hope this may help you.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
