What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar In The Morning?

I have a question related to blood sugar, specifically first-morning, fasting sugar. I ve been diagnosed as pre-diabetic and have been working diligently to reduce my blood sugar by cutting out carbs and sugar, and eating primarily a Paleo diet. My blood sugar is now looking good all day, but for my first morning sugar, which has actually risen from around 119 to 145-150. Before going to bed (at 10:00 pm), my BG is 90-100, but then upon rising, it s 145-150 (at 6:00 am). Can you tell me what is likely happening here, and more importantly, how to reduce these first morning sugars?
