What Causes Elevated Alanine Transaminase(ALT)levels In The Blood?

I recently had an ALT blood test come back at a 36.....my dermatologist told me that was slightly elevated. What would cause this and how long should I wait before I retest? Also, would alka seltzer, Sudafed or other cold/sinus medications cause it to be elevated?

hi
thank you asking your concern and welcome HCM. i must say there is some confusion or dermatologist misinterpreted with results but this is completely normal ALT level. raised ALT level are significant mostly when they are twice higher than their high value of normal range. you can check youself on internet the normal ALT or SGPT values. there are almost negligible chance of having liver injury by short duration of cold medications.
i hope i answered your concern and if you feel any doubt please ask us.
regards
dr. Abhijit
