What Causes Elevated LDH After PVI Catheter Ablation For Atrial Fibrillation?
Hi, Just received blood test results. All within norms except LDH (not broken out) which is 310 u/l. Is this typical after a PVI catheter ablation for Atrial Fibrillation? I have had 4 ablations in nine months. -the last was two months ago and my blood tests were yesterday. I have been AF (was always rapid and long episodes) free for three weeks with the exception of ectopics. I was also hospitalized six weeks ago for acute abcessed diverticulitis, controled with bombarded antibiotics- symptom free at present. Thank you - AWG
Welcome to HCM This is Dr Amit. Let me help you in this case. According to you all the reports were normal except Lactate hydrogenase (LDH) which was 310 U/L. Normal range for LDH is 100-250 U/L. Most Common reason for the increased LDH is HEMOLYSIS and as you already mentioned that you went through the catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation so there must be chronic, usually compensated, intravascular hemolysis secondary to mechanical damage to red blood cells. So i will advice you not to worry take proper rest and complete the treatment and repeat the LDH level after few weeks for the follow up. Feel free to ask if you have any other query. Regards
