What Causes Elevated GGT Level In Blood?

I am 27 year old male and just had life exam labs done. Every number was right in the middle of normal except for my GGT number which was at 78. I drink a few times a week and take Aleve a few times a week for back pain. I had also been very sick the day before and did not hold in any food or drink for 36 hours. Should i be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The normal GGT levels can vary slightly from one lab to the next but in general the upper limit is approximately 51.

It is not likely that the aleve affected the readings but increased levels may be related to the alcohol use.
This is one of the common causes.

Other causes are cirrhosis, hepatitis, mass in the liver.

You should consider decreasing your alcohol intake and monitoring for an further changes.
Decreased intake would prevent any further damage.

I hope this helps
