What Causes Ears To Pop?

hello, this is an odd question but every time i burp or yawn my right ear pops... I have been using the ear for a headset during conference calls if that could have anything to do with it.. Could this be an ear infection and is it serious enough for me to see my doctor? Thank You!

Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM.

Popping of the ears while burping or yawning is a normal phenomenon. It is due to the internal connection between the nasopharynx (back of the nose) and the middle ear (between the eardrum and the inner ear) through a tube called as the Eustachian Tube (ET). Sometimes this tube opens up and equalises the pressure between the middle ear and nasopharynx leading to a popping sound. This is no reason for concern.

Hope this information was helpful. Do let me know if you have any other concerns.
