What Causes Early Prolonged Period While Being On Birth Control Pills?

I have been on the bcp for 11 months - take every day, same time, not skipped. Periods are always normal and come at same time. This month I have started extreme cramping and bleeding 7 days early. I am not supposed to start for 2 more days and I am still bleeding and cramping. I am not pregnant. I am 40 years old and confused.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

All BCP's come with a list of common side effects, some of the most common ones on their list are menstrual irregularities, inter-menstrual bleeding, abdominal cramping, abdominal bloating, lower back pain, acne, etc.

I would not worry about this too much, and am sure it is only temporary. These side effects should subside in no time, and if at all they do not then you should schedule an appointment with your prescribing doctor.

Best wishes.
