What Causes Ear Pain And Sore Throat?

I have had this ear pain that my family doctor keeps telling me nothing is wrong. My throat is sore where my tonsils use to be and the pain in my ear seams as though it is straight behind my ear drum - when I yawn or open my mouth wide it hurts in those areas also. I have been on antibiotic several times now - when my ears get to the point where my head feels like it is going to explode. The Doctor has put me on 10 days of Augmentin 1st that seam to work the best at the end of the 10 days I felt about 90 percent better, then after it came back to the point where I could stand it tried Leviquin - it did nothing to help at all - so put me on z-pack helped a bit but on day 7 pain started to come on again and got worse - ended up going to a minute clinic - she said I had a double ear infection. today is the 10th day - ears still hurt -but at least I'm not in bed screaming in pain because the Ibuprophen doesn't help - I also do a saline rinse and steroid nasal spray - I have been on several nasal sprays because Dr. seams to think allergies but I am not sure about this because Nasal spray don't help at all either - the pain is kinda a burning sensation in ears at this point and I do feel about 70 percent better than I did 10 days ago on the amoxicillin 875 3 times per day - but not better - I am seeing and ENT tmro for the 2nd time because the 1st ENT stated he couldn't help me because I didn't have insurance so that would leave out diagnostics. Cultures don't cost that much! NOt one visit that I have had has any doctor cultured anything - what can I do or say to get a Dr. to culture sinus or fluid from ear

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Thank you for your query.

That discomfort rather burning sensation inside your throat is due to a phenomenon called as acid reflux i.e a bad acid reflux affecting your throat, nose and sometimes ear as well. If there is no fever and no bumps in your neck then it is unlikely that it is an infection needing antibiotics. If you are constantly taking pain medications and antibiotics the condition will worsen like in your case. The treatment for this is medicines to reduce the reflux like pantaprazole with mosapride combination and life style modification to reduce the stress. You also need to eat healthy and drink plenty of water everyday, If you are not better by these changes meet a primary care physician to help you.
If you are meeting an ENT he could suggest you the same.
I hope i have answered your query and helped you.
