What Causes Dryness And Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

I have an aversion to sugar and red sauce such as spaghetti or pizza sauce. I have not eaten any sweets except oranges and some raisins for 2 years. I have rheumatoid arthritis and Sjorgen's syndrome and my mouth is often dry and has a kind of metallic taste(but not coppery like I get with blood).

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your problem of dryness in mouth and metallic taste is due to Sjogren's syndrome that occurs when the body's own immunity starts damaging the secretory glands of the body..
As it effects the salivary glands and sweat glands the eyes and mouth is affected..
Dry mouth and metallic taste is due to dry mouth only as saliva is must for proper functioning of the taste buds..
You should follow remedies for dry mouth like chewing sugarfree chewing gums and suck lemon drops..
Use mouth lubricant drops and gels..
You can also be advised a drug Pilocarpine that can help in improving saliva flow..
Also keep your tongue clean so that food debris or particles does not accumulate that can also distort taste..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
