What Causes Dryness And Itching In The Eyes While On Lubricating Eye Drops?

My eyes are always dry. Have used lubricating eye drops, don t help. I feel like they have matter, sticky feeling and dry, itchy. Eyes are often red, pinkish, and difficult to focus. Have been to they eye doctor about 8 months ago for exam and told about dry eyes. They said they are ok and my prescription is still good. I also have been waking up in the night with extremely dry mouth, can t even swallow. I know I don t drink enough water, and possibly am dehydrated often.

Some reasons that cause dry eyes:
-The natural aging process
-Side effects of certain drugs like antihistamines
-Diseases that affect your ability to make tears like rheumatoid arthritis.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
- Continue using artificial tear drops and ointments. This is the most common treatment. If you have chronic dry eye, you need to use the drops even when your eyes feel fine.
-Nutrition: Adding fish oil or omega-3 to your diet or can also help.
There are many other treatments but they should be administered by a specialist.
