Brief Answer: BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

As per your complain pins and needles feeling on the tongue is due to a condition known as Burning Mouth Syndrome which causes burning pain over the tongue..

The most common cause of Burning Mouth is Dry Mouth and it is clear and apparent in your case..
The dry mouth can occur due to a number of conditions like Certain medicines like those reduce high blood pressure, salivary gland disorders, nerve damage, Autoimmune disease like Sjogren's syndrome, infections like Thrush, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, long standing dehydration etc..

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get evaluated for the underlying cause of dry mouth as the correction of dry mouth can lead to improvement in burning mouth..

1. You can take Saliva Substitutes containing methyl cellulose that can be instilled in mouth for lubrication..
2. Saliva stimulants like lemon drops, sour candies and sugarfree chewing gums can help stimulating saliva flow..
3. If required a drug known as PILOCARPINE can be taken as it helps in stimulating the glands to produce more saliva..
4. Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration..
5. Avoid hot, spicy and acidic foods to prevent irritation in mouth and tongue..
6. Sucking ice pops can help..
7. Maintain a good oral hygiene..

Hope this information helps and thanks for writing to Healthcare Magic..
