What Causes Dry Cough Post A Surgery For Tetrology Of Fallot?

Hi,my 2 year old daughter had tetrology of fallot when she was born,she had surgery when she was 4 months old to repair it.they took out her pulminary valve and did not replace it.she has recently developed a persistant dry cough,but no fever,should I be worried,if so,what should I do and is there any medicines I can give her?

Hi, TOF is known to cause serious pulmonary infections. Even after the operation, post op chances of lung infections are their. Apart from lower respiratory tract infection, Pulmonary edema post operative , can cause cough without fever. Your child might have a simple flu or common cold which might be causing this cough. Get an Xray Chest done, Get a post op Echocardiography done to look for residual defect. As of now, Give your child some bronchodilator in form of Syrup asthalin, or give something to soothen her throat in form of Syrup Ambrolite -D. Give her antihistaminic syrup like Cetrizine 3 ml once a day. If the cough still persists, Consult a cardiologist.
