What Causes Dry And Peeling Skin On Lips?

My upper lip is dry and hard and both my lips are peeling. The dry hard patches on my upper lip will keep peeling off and when the skin regenerates, the skin will become hars and dry and peel off again. My bottom lip is also peeling but the skin is not that hard. I have been under the sun for long hours when this happened but now im not under the sun much and my lips are still peeling. May I know what caused this and how to cure my lips?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain dryness and peeling of lips can occur due to a number of causes and in your case it is due to sunburn and as you are not exposed to sun now there can be some more reasons along with sunburn which can cause the above explained symptoms like Dehydration, vitamin A,B and C deficiency, exposure to harsh winds, allergic reaction to certain face and lip products, food allergens etc, intake of certain medicines if you are under any medication can also cause chapping and dry lips.

In order to get relieved keep your lips lubricated by applying some natural lubricants like Aloe vera gel or olive oil or coconut oil to prevent chemical exposure as well as keep the lips lubricated..

Applying a thick coat of petroleum jelly can help in preventing dryness of lips..

Always apply lip balms containing SPF 15 over the lips when going out in sun and if possible cover the lips with a scarf to prevent sun exposure as well as prevent exposure from dry air..

In case if you find signs of inflammation like redness, itching, bleeding you can apply steroid based ointments for relief..

Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and dryness of lips..

Exfoliate your lips by by using a natural scrub like adding a spoonful of olive oil in some sugar granules and gently scrub on lips and leave for about 5 to 10 minutes..

Eat foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, milk apricots) and vitamin c( citrus fruits like oranges, sweet lime) as well as you can take one tablet of multivitamin for 15 days.

Dip a clean cotton cloth in lukewarm water and place on your lips till it cools and then gently rub your lips with the cloth itself. After this place a cloth dipped in cold water over the lips for a minute and after this pat dry your lips and apply a thick coat of petroleum jelly..

Always clean and dry your lips and apply fresh milk fat or milk itself over the lips before going to bed..

Hope this information helps..
