What Causes Dry And Itchy Skin After Plaquenil For Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I have rheumatoid arthritis. Been taking plaquenil for approx 18 mos. and Humira injections for 4 mos.. This past winter developed a very itchy rash on shins. Just thought it was dry, itchy, winter skin but noticed some swelling in legs and ankles the past 2-3 weeks. No pain, no shortness of breath, just intense itching and now swelling. wondering if this could be from one of the meds I m taking...

I can understand your concern.

The use of Plaquenil and Humira is associated with a number of side effects.
Intense itching, dry skin, with swelling is more commonly seen with Humira as compared to Plaquenil.

Visit your treating physician/Rheumatologist for further evaluation, may be you need anti allergic treatment like levocetrizine with Hydrocortisone cream or use of alternate medication with the same efficacy but less tendency to cause the allergic reactions.
