What Causes Dizziness And What Are The Chances Of Kidney Damage When Suffering From Diabetes?

I am having an MRI of my head and neck next week. I am a diabetic. I read that the the chances of damage to my kidneys are higher being a diabetic. Also I have dizzy spells and they may get worse after an MRI. Last I have a big lump on the back of my neck. I read it may get larger after an MRI. The dr. that order the MRI is aware of these things. Need some answers Thank you

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

First, it is not like MRI is going to increase the size of your lump. There is no valid explanation behind that and this is just a rumor you may have heard. The fact remains that the MRI is one of the best imaging techniques available for the lump/mass.

As for the dizzy spells, I would need further details as to when they happen and at what time they happen. I will suggest you test the levels of your sugars as too low/high sugars can both cause vertigo. So you need to test that. I cannot be sure because I have no idea from your query as to what therapy you are using and how i the sugar control. I would suggest an FBS/PPBS/HbA1c.

As for the kidney damage in kidneys, it is a bit complicated how that happens. I will try to make it simple. The high sugars affect all parts of the body and all the cells in the body. They effect the cells of kidneys too. The filters in kidney are gradually blocked by protein loss, and this loss of filter gradually becomes more and more extensive. The kidneys compensate initially, but finally, at some stage the loss of filter becomes too much to compensate and the person develops detectable kidney disease. Again good sugar control is required to avoid this

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
