What Causes Dizziness And Imbalance In An Elderly Person?
I m am 72 and have been a runner for 30 years. In the past 3 years I have had a number of episodes while running races that consist of slowing down dramatically and feeling like I m falling backwards, however when I stop I recover in a short period of time.
There are many causes of dizziness such as a. arrhythmia b. heart block c. internal ear problem d. vertebral spondylitis e. stroke f. vestibular neuritis Cause needs to be identified. Advice 1. Take bed rest 2. Cinnarizine (tablet Vertigon) 25 mg every 8 hours until subsidence of symptoms 3. Check your blood pressure regularly 4. Investigation a. MRI of brain b. ECG c. Holter montoring d. Fasting lipid profile e. Blood sugar (F & PP) Consult a neuro-physician for further follow up. Thanks
