What Causes Dizziness And Blackout When Sitting Or Laying Or Standing?
When I'm sitting or laying down, and I stand up I get real dizzy and blackout. It has been happening for a few years but has recently got to the point that its starting to scare me. I've asked friends and family. They tell me that this is not normal. I've heard to take my time when standing, and I've tried this but it still happens. Its gotten to the point now that it happens 3-5 times a day.
What you are experiencing is called postural hypotension. When you stand up from a sitting or supine posture, your blood pressure falls as most of the blood gets pooled in the lower limbs. The dizziness and blackout occurs because the heart is not able to pump enough blood to the brain. These symptoms can be minimized if you change your posture very slowly, giving the heart ample time to adjust. Postural hypotension can be the side effect of many common medicines or it can be due to other disorders like venous insufficiency etc. Consult your doctor so the cause can be found and managed.
Best wishes.
