I have a mirena coil which has caused me discomfort for the last 12 months so I am having it taken out in October. I had it as I wanted a secure method of contraception and also no periods. I had periods every month though. This month I have missed my period but have had break through bleeding with a half day bleed about a week and a half after a funny turn at work where i experienced sudden cramping diziness and almost passed out this only lasted 5-10 mins though.I have an uncomfortable pain on the left hand side of my stomach which is noticeable all the time now. I keep getting hot flushes and spells of dizziness and also sickness. I am exhausted all the time and my nipples are sore. I have done 2 test and both are negative. Symptoms are not going away though they have been consistent for 3 weeks and I am late on my period by a week and a day. I also am getting period like cramping now abs again. I have a 5 year old son and remember feeling this way when I was pregnant!

What Causes Discomfort While On Mirena Coil?
Hello, Thank you for your query. Based on your symptoms, I would like to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. This may not show up on a regular pregnancy test when expected. I recommend : -an OBGYN consult immediately -an ultrasound abdomen -blood tests (Beta hcg, complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate) -urine analysis. - a scan may be needed depending on the results of the ultrasound. An ectopic pregnancy can result in life threatening complications if not treated early. Displacement of the coil is also possible keeping and can lead to infection, pain and bleeding.
