What Causes Discoloration And Bruising Of Toe Nail?

Hi I stubbed my Lil toe Thursday and it was swollen but it went down but the nail is discolored and it s bruised, like it s kind of dark around the toe nail, what does that mean, I hope nothing to serious since I can t afford to go to the hospital it there any home care that I can do?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain the discolouration and bruising of the nail is due to injury leading to ruptured blood vessels..
There is also a possibility that there is detachment of the nail due to trauma..
Nothing to worry as gradually the healing will take place.
As of now you can do cool compresses around the toe nail..
You can also take Motrin or Aleve if there is pain..
You can apply an antiseptic ointment over it and cover with a bandage to prevent further injury..
If the nail seems detached apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine over it and gently cut the broken nail off..
In case if it does not show signs of healing in a week or if the symptoms exaggerate consult a General Physician and get evaluated..
