What Causes Diarrhea?

My son is 13, he is healthy. He had a bad headache 2 nights ago, then yesterday he said he wasn't feeling well with a stomach ache. He doesn't have his headache anymore but today when he got home from school he started throwing up. He has thrown up 4 times between 3pm and 7pm. He also has diarrea like water. Should I bring him to the ER? I am worried about him getting dehydrated because he can't keep anything down.
